On behalf of the Board of Directors and on my own behalf I greet everybody that has taken interest in viewing the Mandela S.S Hoima website. On 10th June 2019, Mandela S.S Hoima marked 22 years of its existence. I take this opportunity to thank each of its many stakeholders that have enabled the school to grow and be counted among the top secondary schools in Uganda. In particular, I thank the following:
The students who have been exceptionally well behaved and willing to study, led by the team of prefects; School management, led by the school principal: Mr. Francis Nzigu Xavier, the Head teachers- Mr. Ndiwalana Roland, Mr. Habaasa Edward, and deputy Head teachers; The teachers, who have unreservedly served the school; Parents, who have not only chosen Mandela S.S Hoima for the education of their children but also responded positively to the demands of the school management; and Leadership of faith organizations that have assisted our students in spiritual growth.
Mandela S.S Hoima was ranked number 8 countrywide with regard to the number of students admitted on Government sponsorship to public universities during the 2019 admissions. This excellent performance is mainly on account of the effort the school system puts in on one hand, and on the good quality of students that apply to their A-Level at Mandela S.S Hoima on the other hand. At O-Level Mandela S.S Hoima was ranked 7 countrywide. We are desirous of admitting students with aggregates in the range of 4 to 10, which normally is the cut-off point for the school at student’s selection that is annually organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports. Unfortunately, due to adverse and wrong perception about the strength of the school at O-Level, some parents opt to take their good children elsewhere for their O-Level education.
My appeal to parents is to choose Mandela S.S Hoima for the education for their children for O-Level. We are desirous of consistently getting many students at O-level passing with maximum excellence performance in aggregates 8 and 9, which we have often achieved. Whereas the school system is very strong and ready to enable deserving students to pass with maximum excellence, we are not in position to only high quality students that would enable the school to consistently reach that mark. That said, I thank parents that have chosen Mandela S.S Hoima for their children to study O-Level. The Board of directors would like to inform the entire public of its total devotion to excellent service to the school stakeholders, who majorly include students and their parents. Within limited financial resources, the Board of Directors in 2018/19 mad significant improvements of student’s dormitories, school walkways, sanitation, and school furniture. The school has continued to do its best with regards to feeding students and timely payment of Teachers’ salaries. We are confident that the future can only be better with regard to academic performance.
The BOD hereby thanks the parents that turned up for the PTA annual general meeting that was held on Saturday 6th July 2019. We appeal to all parents to always attend the annual general PTA meetings, which help us to agree on the way of bringing up our children in this volatile social environment. On a similar note I thank the following religious leaders for their pastoral visits to the school, prayers for our candidates to do well in the national examinations, and where applicable for confirmation of students in the respective faiths:
I wish to inform our clients that Mandela S.S Hoima competed in national sports events last year. Regarding football, the boys’ team participated in the Coca Cola championship at national level, Jinja. The Under 6 football team similarly competed at national level in Soroti.
We promise to devote our full energies to always give holistic education that covers all major aspects of child growth and development. Holistic education ensures full child development mentally, morally and physically. It is this holistic approach to child growth and development that sets apart Mandela S.S Hoima from other schools in Uganda. It is for this reason we encourage parents and their children to choose Mandela S.S Hoima for O-Level and A-Level education. Distance should not be an issue because the school shall always assist with transportation of your child from home to school at the opening of the school term and from school back home when the school closes for holidays.
Compared to schools of similar academic performance, school fees for Mandela S.S Hoima remain relatively affordable. School fees for lower secondary (S1-S3) for boarding students is UGX860,000 per term. Fees for S4 fees and A-Level is UGX950,000 per term. I humbly request students that are looking for a school and determined to acquire quality education to make Mandela S.S Hoima a first choice. I make the same appeal to parents that desire to give quality education to their children . we care to enable your child to achieve.
Caring to achieve.
BATEGEKA NKOOTO LAWRENCE , CHAIRMAN BOARD OF DIRECTORS
I welcome everyone to the Mandela Website. I am as always immensely exhilarated to contribute to our Website. Parents ......
I welcome everyone to the Mandela Website. I am as always immensely exhilarated to contribute to our Website. Parents and students alike have a temptation to think that all schools with good looking or new buildings are the best. They may not be true. Good buildings provide a good learning environment. But not all schools with new buildings are great. Therefore plus, I would like to draw your attention to focus on the major things that tell the quality of Mandela S.S, Hoima.
The school culture: The school culture is critical to the discipline and programming of the students who go through it. Upon admission and reporting to school, new students go through orientation for one week to inculcate in them the school culture (Enculturation) in the name of caring to achieve.
The school culture is communicated through discipline, implementing the school rules and regulations, time management and punctuality, prayerfulness, hard work and academic excellence. We teach a wide range of school curriculum like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, CRE, Agriculture, Literature, Runyoro, Fine Art, Entrepreneurship, General paper, Sub-Maths and ICT. I thank the staff for the team work and co-operation.
Not forgetting the fact that the school was founded by a successful and first rate educationist, Chairman Hon. Dr. Lawrence Bategeka Nkooto who planted the seed and has always been available to serve mankind.
This makes our students intellectually competitive, curious to learn, very innovative and free think-grades, the number of students admitted on government sponsorship and above all, transformation of the students in line with the school mission “We carefully provide knowledge, skills and morals that transform students into successful and responsible citizens.”
The alumni fraternity: For over 22 years of achievement, the quality of the former students of Mandela the school since its inception have become notable and great people in serving their communities, the church and the state. This gives the current students a sense of belonging, inspiration and motivation that they belong to a wider constituency.
The students: I Implore you to always be smart students in a top school by doing the following: A smart student knows why he/she is at school, respects teachers, does his homework in time, asks questions, gets involved in school activities, co-operates with fellow students, writes notes and refers to them, reads widely, consults teachers, is smartly dressed at all times, makes use of libraries, prepares well for exams, has an ambition in life, listens to teachers twice as he/she may talk, is well informed about world affairs, isn’t an insufferable show off, wakes up early, exercises regularly, speaks well of his teachers, is polite and obedient, does not make noise in the class room, he/she is respectful and thoughtful, he is hygiene conscious, apologizes for mistakes made. A smart student never, ever gives up!!
Dear parents: Thank you for continuing to entrust us with your children in a struggle to build and model people. You build the foundation on which we add. The UNEB selection code for Mandela SS is 1278. Continue choosing Mandela the academic destination for your child. Caring to Achieve.

Special regards to our esteemed parents and guardians! on behalf of MANDELA S.S, Hoima and on my own behalf I once again utilize this opportune moment to share with you the profound joy of working with teenagers.
Our satisfaction as teachers lies in the daily struggle to transform teenagers into successful and above all responsible citizens. Once this is achieved, as indeed history has proven for the past 22 years, we do well in priding ourselves in this achievement. Mandela S.S, Hoima has transformed myriads of teenagers into ideal citizens as a vehicle towards a realization of a middle economy. Of course, there are thousand words to share with you our esteemed parents but only one factor summarizes all.
Our persistence and consistency to stick on our school mission. our mission is our creed. It is recited every day. It states “we carefully provide knowledge, morals and skills that transform a student into a successful and responsible citizen”. The school`s achievements can neither be hidden nor over exaggerated but there is no doubt that Mandela S.S, hoima is not only a leading school in Albertine region but also in the wider East African community. currently, the school is ranked number eight in excellence yet it remains affordable to most house holds in East Africa community when all this is shared, the unfailing and tireless efforts of the Board of Directors Mandela S.S, Hoima cannot be left out.
The Board of Directors headed by Dr. Hon.Lawrence Bategeka, has maintained the Achievers legacy within the region by advancing the quest for continuous and sustainable quality education in the region. Long may the board of directors Mandela SS live.
May it not be forgotten that education is the only weapon which can fight poverty, ignorance and disease.it can also bring closer the sons and daughters of slaves to those of the nobles. Love education, live education!
